Barnes, also called Castelnau-Barnes, is an attractive and truly authentic village on the Thames side that attracts a crowd of successful londoners. It is within 20 minutes reach from Waterloo by train and 10 minutes from Hammersmith by bus (however there is no tube station within walking distance). It is surrounded with pretty houses, mansions and cottages as well as riverside properties and has a handful of small boutiques and groceries stores.
Barnes is well known for the Oxford and Cambridge boat race that takes place every year, but also for its quintessential village feel that you'll find in so few places in London. Barnes is a very desirable area for young families who work in London but are searching for a family type and English village atmosphere.
