Notting Hill - photo #1

Notting Hill is located in the district of Kensington and Chelseanear the northwest corner of Hyde Park.

Notting Hill has a reputation of being a borough for the rich and fashionable, and is known for its large Victorian townhouses and restaurants (particularly around Westbourne Grove). The many music stores around Notting Hill Gate are also a home for "alternative" cultures.

It is a cosmopolitan area, all the more during the famous Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place in August. This is a street festival, a huge celebration of the Caribbean cultures, with parades costumed dancers.

The Portobello Road flea market has become a major tourist attraction in London and is surrounded by many antique shops. The market is held each Saturday and attracts buyers, sellers and tourists alike.

Notting Hill gained international attention with the Hollywood movie: Maid in Notting Hill (1999)
where you can see the antique market of Portobello Road.
